Such challenges include criticism, negativity, circumstance, political situations and other obstacles. Shankar has helped many individuals change their ways of thinking so that they may face criticism and negativity with a sense of maturity and compassion.

Here are Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Top 10 Rules for Success:

  1. Welcome Constructive Criticism: it is important to take compliments and criticism in stride in equal measure. We will not always hear good things about ourselves but it is important to keep in sight the end product of criticism: growth. We cannot grow as individuals or in the business world without hearing our fair share of criticism. This does not mean that we do not have enough going for us. Quite the latter. It means that we are worth other people’s thoughts, input and attention. Similarly to a professor giving you a letter grade the rest of the class, it may often be because that professor sees more potential in us that we see in ourselves.
  1. Take steps out of your comfort zone: it is easy to get too comfortable when we have a good routine established for a good work and personal arrangement in place. This is exactly what we need to take the time to step outside of our comfort zone and grow as people. It may always be difficult for some of us to want new things and pursue new experiences. However, it is crucial for growth and success.
  1. Remain stable, still and content: it is important to maintain a sense of calm within our own skin. Do not let stress, irritation, obligations or challenges change our inner sense of peace. A sense of contentment with our circumstance and ourselves is something that we always must find no matter what is going on in our life. Remain calm, stay still and maintain internal stability in the face of fluctuation.
  1. Learn something from everyone: there is much to be gained by asking questions, listening to others and maintaining a childlike sense of curiosity and enthusiasm. Oftentimes, our best skills and assets come from the information we can take from others in social situations or workplace settings. Be open to new information and spend more time learning from others.
  1. Maintain a balance in your life: do not get blown off course by challenges, depression, fluctuations of circumstance or success and failure. Take all of these emotions and situations in stride and find a way to creatively solve problems so that you can return to that safe balance. Do not have great-great lows either personally or professionally. Always seek a sense of calm and normalcy and do what it takes to keep things running smoothly.

  1. Always have passion, compassion and dispassion inappropriate measures: keep your emotions in check. Do not let your passion for something, dispassion for something or other sentiments spill over to much into how you handle challenges. Take your own emotions into account but also compartmentalize them. Look outside yourself. Do not make decisions based simply on your passion or dispassion for something where your sense of obligation. Compassion is always a good feeling to have. However, do not let it cloud your decision-making processes. Simply factor in these emotions when making choices are pursuing your next venture.
  1. List and weigh the pros and cons (learn from your past instead of feeling a sense of regret): it is easy to let our emotional side make our choices. Instead, make an objective list of pros and cons when faced with a difficult scenario. Think critically and stick with unbiased principles regarding the situation. Do not let your past affect your present or your future. Do not let any sense of lingering regret affect what could be a profitable prospect in the now. Regret often turns to fear and loathing when we are faced with new life paths and decisions. Let go of such feelings and think of your past positively as you learn from it and move forward constructively.
  1. Put effort into everything you do: never fall asleep on the job. Do not let monotony or routine allow you to get lazy. Find passion within yourself and let that passion be reflected in your work. Choose work that truly inspires you and makes you look forward to putting the effort in. Do something creative. Do something influential. Do something you can be proud of.
  1. Meditate: it has long been thought that meditation is an excellent key to relaxation, personal balance and centering. Meditation allows us to clear our minds and then obtain a greater level of clarity and focus afterwards. One does not have to think of meditation as a spiritual activity necessarily. Think of meditation simply as a holistic and natural way to improve our mental outlook in our physical well-being. There are many great benefits of meditation on a regular basis. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain by considering guided or unguided meditation as a means of achieving health and success. “The power of spiritual knowledge gives you centeredness, which brings out passion in work & dispassion in meditation.” – Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

     10. Remember that life goes beyond failure and success: do not simply focus on these two categories of prospects. Life goes beyond the moments we find rewarding and the moments          we find upsetting. There is always a continuous and ever changing middle ground in life that is not failure or success; it is simply living. ““Do not be feverish about success, if your aim is clear            and you have patience to move towards it, nature will support you”- Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
